Source: Bing searches in the United States, the average month from September 2025 to August 2026 (Microsoft Advertising keyword data through DataForSEO, read September 30, 2026); writing: wordfreq 3.1 (a 2021 snapshot of Wikipedia, subtitles, news, books, web text and social media).

Method and limits

Search share: the wrong form's monthly Bing searches divided by both forms' searches. Writing share: the same ratio from wordfreq's frequencies, which pool edited text (Wikipedia, books, news) with subtitles and social media, so written text is partly spell-checked before it is published. Search boxes are not; the gap is the point, and it also shows which misspellings survive spell-checkers. A wrong form that is written relatively more often than it is searched is not published as a misspelling: it is a word or a name of its own (a surname, a brand, a word in another language).
