Where the count comes from
The split is Wiktionary's hyphenation. Where Wiktionary gives none, the count is the vowel sounds of the word's American pronunciation, and says so. Where the two disagree, both are shown: words like fire, hour and comfortable are said with more or fewer syllables in different accents and at different speeds.
