Vive principalmente en el suelo en donde se alimenta de lombrices, insectos y otros invertebrados. Anida en cuevas que pueden medir dos metros de profundidad. Su hábitat son las laderas de cerros secas cubiertas de matas y matorrales desde la Región de Atacama hasta la Región del Biobío, en Chile.
- 2(Bryonia dioica) Planta trepadora de la familia de las Cucurbitáceas con zarcillos, hojas pentalobuladas, flores azuladas o blancas; el fruto es una baya de color rojo. La planta es tóxica y tiene uso en medicina natural como purgante y rubefaciente. Los brotes tiernos son comestibles.
