Hay corbetas de puente y de pozo; las primeras, que son regularmente las mayores se llaman así porque tienen una batería debajo de la cubierta superior; y las otras son las de 16 o 24, cuyas piezas de artillería están todas sobre cubierta, corridas de popa a proa por una y otra banda.
- 2Embarcación en general mercante, de porte de 150 a 500 toneladas y de tres palos; el trinquete y mayor como los correspondientes de un bergantín redondo, y el mesana, que sirve para lardar una cangreja y una escandalosa, sin cofa ni vergas. Se llamó antiguamente bergantín-corbeta y hoy día es más conocido por los nombres de barca, bergantín-barca y brick-barca.
