Where does haitch come from?
A nineteenth-century Hiberno-English phonological overlay of the early medieval Irish Gaelic héis and Middle English aitch. Héis is a graphemic mapping of Classical Latin ha, borrowed into Irish Gaelic to represent the autochthonous phoneme.
