It may also be a contraction of Punjabi ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (muslamān, “Muslim”) or Punjabi ਮੁਸਲਾ (muslā, “"carpet kisser", another derogatory term for Muslims, but also refers to a mat or carpet used for Muslim prayers”).
