# Slovincian

> English word · Noun · IPA /slə(ʊ)ˈvɪnsɪ.ən/

## Definitions
1. One of a Slavic people living between the lakes Gardno (Gardersee) and Łebsko (Lebasee) near Słupsk (Stolp) in Pomerania.

## Etymology
From Kashubian Słowińc (“Slovincian”, person) + -ian. The ultimate origin is uncertain; the name is often said to be coined by Alexander Hilferding, but it actually predates his research, being found in (17th century) German slowinzisch, related to wendisch and often mistaken with Latin vandalicus.
