From Japanese せとか (setoka), which in turn is said to derive from one or more Japanese place names. Compare 早崎瀬戸(はやさきせと) (Hayasaki Seto, “Hayasaki strait”), 瀬戸内地方(せとうちちほう) (Setouchi chihō, “Seto region”), areas where the fruit was developed and is grown.
