> English word · Proper noun · IPA /ˈpaɪsiːz/ · frequency rank #30,537

## Definitions
1. A constellation of the zodiac traditionally figured as a pair of fish with their tails tied by a ribbon.
2. The zodiac sign for the fish, supposed to be ruled by Neptune or Jupiter and to influence events occurring between February 20 and March 20 (tropical) or, less often, between March 15 and April 14 (sidereal).

## Etymology
From Latin piscēs, the nominative plural of piscis (“fish”), calque of Ancient Greek ιχθύες (ikhthúes, “fish (pl); name of constellation”). Compare Akkadian 𒁺𒉺𒉺 (DU.NU.NU, “fish-cord”); the constellation is often depicted as two fish tied by a ribbon.
